February is a time of chilly weather, and the need to dress warm is still something Dixie State College students should consider.
With so many different styles and fashions, it's easy to create a look that is in fashion and looks good for all occasions.
Monica Hart, assistant professor of theater and costumes said, "Fashion is an art. Clothing is body art."
Fashion is an art, but there are some essentials that go through each year to help achieve a style.
She said: "For girls, there is always the little black skirt or dress, [that is] simple enough that you can dress it up or down. For guys, nice casual suit jackets, pants and vests are good. T-shirts are also always in style for guys and girls. And jeans are always an essential. For shoes this season its tennis shoes or Chuck Taylors for guys, and girls its ballet flats."
With these essentials, the limits are endless on ways to dress warm in the chilly weather. You can turn to your own creativeness that will help you achieve your own personal style and stay warm.
"Students love anything that has a little bit of edge that pushes the envelope," Hart said.
The personal styles of students vary.
Nicole Weisbrich, a freshman undecided major from Inyokern, Calif., said: "I don't dress for seasons. The majority of what I wear is what's closest to me. Generally I dress cuter more than causal."
Heather Ivory, a freshman nursing major from St. George, has a different style.
Ivory said: "I dress cute and causal. I love sweatpants and mine are really cute so they are perfect for going out."
Fashion is not only for the girls; guys have style too.
Chris Bullock, a junior mathematics major from St. George, said: "I dress warm for the weather. I usually dress in nice casual."
There are many different personal styles, yet every season there are trends that occur. Some of the trends this year for girls are scarves and hats, as well as layering clothes for warmth.
Weisbrich is a fan of hats and scarves. Ivory's view on this is much the same.
She said: "I love hats. They make me feel safe. I do have scarves, but to be honest, I hardly wear them. I have such long hair so my neck is always warm."
When it comes to layering, some girls are all for it.
"I always have a tank underneath my clothes, usually lined with lace. It's warmer and more modest," Ivory said.
On the other hand, some of the female population is not on board.
Weisbrich said, "I like layering, but sometimes it's too bulky."
While themes for women come and go season to season, men's fashion seems to stay the same.
Hart said, "Guys fashion hasn't changed for the last 400 years."
This seems to be the general theme. From year to year the fashion for warm weather clothing is simply a T-shirt and a jacket. Bullock agrees with this.
He said, "I wear short sleeve shirts with a jacket on most days. I never wear a heavy coat."
For cold times it's best to stay warm and follow your own personal style sense.
Hart said: "Fashion follows trends. Style carries you through these trends."
