Student executive council, student senate meetings reviewed

STUDENT EXECUTIVE COUNCIL MEETING FEB. 23, 2010

*Constitution has been written for the approval of the student body. The five branches of government are fully organized and established to reflect the new changes taking place on campus with the shift from a two-year to four-year academic institution.

*Students are challenged by their officers to review the constitution and its bylaws by going to the DSC home page. The constitution will be ready for review Tuesday (March 2). Major changes have occurred with the club council with regards to structure and budget organization. The senate organization has seen the biggest changes with executive and student council; notably the student council will take on more of a judiciary role with senate activity.

*A few other things include preparation for Mr. Dixie which is Wednesday (Feb. 24) at 7 p.m.

STUDENT SENATE MEETING MONDAY

*The club council ratified the documentary bill after it was moved under Article 3 of the senate's constitution. The bill allocates $475 to Tel Stewart for the creation of a Raging Red Documentary. The vote passed unanimously.

*A bill requesting funding for Sigma Tau Delta students to attend their international conference is still awaiting a vote from Student Body President Dewey Denning.

*The senate approved a bill requesting $410 in funding for DSC student Nadia Van Der Watt to attend the National Conference of Undergraduate Research. The investigation committee reported that the funding amount falls within the limits of the Senate's policies. They said the conference is internationally recognized and will benefit the reputation of DSC. The bill passed unanimously.

*Nate Jensen, student body vice president, proposed a bill that would make CIS 1200 no longer a general education requirement.

STUDENT EXECUTIVE COUNCIL MEETING TUESDAY

*Voting details laid out for next years student body president and VP.

*Candidates debate details Thursday in conference room B at 3pm in the Gardner center

*Chalk dance planned. Match 19th on the encampment mall.

*"Red Out" basketball Thursday. Girls at five thirty guys at seven thirty. Public relations advertising on diagonal throwing paint.

*Service will be visiting the elderly, date unspecified.

*40 team limit for the great race. 400 people. Due to volume limits of course.
