And they said celebrity marriages never last.
Brigham Blackham, a sophomore theater major from Mt. Pleasant, and Bylinda Blackham, a senior theater major from North Salt Lake City, are Dixie State College's celebrity couple, and their story started before taking stage with DSC's theater department.
The two of them met at Snow College in 2008 during auditions for "Dark of the Moon." Though Brigham missed the first day of auditions, he was able to get in during call backs. He impressed the director enough that he was able to earn a part in the show. That's how it started. Brigham and Bylinda Blackham built their relationship while working on that show.
However, this wasn't the first time Brigham set eyes upon Bylinda.
"She never knew about it, but she was in this public speaking class that my sister was in, and Bylinda won a competition for speaking," Brigham said. "I watched her and went, ‘Wow, she's so hot.'"
Bylinda rolled her eyes when Brigham said this.
The second time Brigham saw Bylinda he brought a date to a show Bylinda was performing in. While sitting with his brothers and his date he saw Bylinda on stage. He turned to his brothers and repeated what he said about Bylinda earlier. Brigham received a punch to the arm from his date.
Brigham left on a LDS mission, and Bylinda transferred to DSC. When Brigham returned from his mission it didn't take him long to decide where he was going to transfer for school.
Now the two of them are at DSC. Brigham mainly performs while Bylinda works more on the technical side of productions. But the two of them have been on stage together. The first production they performed together was "Run for your Wife," which took place during the summer. They also performed in "The Foreigner" together.
"It's really nice because theater is a lot different than other majors," Bylinda said. "It's a lot bigger time commitment than a lot of things. It's nice having someone who's also a theater major that understands the time commitment that's there and has it as well."
However, Bylinda said it can be difficult at times because they have different rehearsals, so the two of them cherish the little bit of time they do have together.
Brigham said it's especially difficult right now since Bylinda is stage manager, so the two of them are at different rehearsals.
However, when the two of them do get to spend time together they enjoy every minute.
"We worked at Tuacahn this last summer together," Brigham said. "We didn't have any school. We just got to work to work together. It's been really fun making art together."
