Abstract:
The latest Dixie State College play, Macbeth, is set within the Civil War South. The costumes and setting appealed to audiences but some characters lacked necessary Shakespearean elements. ...
This adaptation of Macbeth was one of the worst plays I have ever seen, it managed to oust the Shakespearean festival's production of Julius Caesar for that dubious distinction. This review wasn't much better. Well done Matthew Jacobson, not only did you fail to review the play in any meaningful way (the witches? really? not the butchering of lady macbeth? robbed of her manipulative brilliance, and replaced with a giggling trifle) you also displayed a lack of any discernible writing ability. Oh, and you've not earned the right (clearly) to call Shakespeare billy, although thankfully we can now call you boor.
We are always looking for awesome writers for our staff! I always appreciate feedback. You should stop by Jennings room 134 and sign up for next semester. I'm willing to forfeit my theater critic title if someone who's better comes along!
Keep your newspaper, your title was deceiving is all. We were expecting a real examination on the faults of the play, something with teeth. Instead we got an advertisement with a bit of trite criticism mixed in. Certainly you have ability, it seems like you held back on purpose. What's happened to ethics in writing? Where are yours? Did you hide them away in exchange for a badge of banality?
