Coconut salmon is just one of the unique recipes you can boost with bacon. Bacon can add flavor to almost any dish you try, you just have to be willing to test it out.

According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics the price of bacon has increased over 800 percent since the 1960's.

Now that I have your attention I think it is important that we talk about something. There seems to be an increasing love of bacon in the United States, and people just don't understand how to cook it. I constantly see a pan on the stove with the asteroid belt of grease along the edges. If your stove looks like this you're doing it wrong.

Bacon should be baked

The wise and all knowing Alton Brown, a chef on Food Network, turned me onto the concept of baked bacon, and since investigating his wise words I have never looked back. To bake your bacon lay it across a cookie sheet, if you have a wire rack to let the grease drip off of all the better but it's not a necessity. Cook at 400 degrees for about 15 minutes. Just keep an eye it.

Wait, there's even more. This traditional breakfast marvelousness has become the victim of the mundane breakfast. So what can you do? Read on.

Bacon Cakes

The next time you make pancakes, start by frying bacon, then pour the pancake batter over top and cook as normal. Boom, bacon pancakes.

Bacon Vodka

I found this one on Pinterest, oops, I meant Reddit. Fill a jar with vodka and then place two strips of crispy bacon inside with a bit of peppercorn. Store for a few days and shake every so often. Boom, Bacon Bloody Mary.

Bacon Candle

Prepare a jar with a wick and fill it halfway with strained bacon grease. Let it cool and you're good to go. Boom, edible bacon candle.

Crawfish

I was recently at Baker Reservoir and was able to catch some massive crawfish via the cheese cloth and bacon method. A bit of string and some patience helped as well. I had never had crawfish, but I wished I had some bacon to cook with them. The added flavor of sauteed seafood in bacon grease is amazing, even in the wilderness. Boom, bacon seafood camping deluxe.

Coconut Bacon Salmon

Check out my photo essay at http://goo.g l/Vzzm9. I made this recipe myself, and it was a total hit. I suppose there's little that bacon can't do. Boom, date night dinner.

Bacon Salad Cups This one is easier than it sounds. Flip a muffin pan upside-down and weave bacon strips together (4-6 strips). Place this over the con-vexed molds and then bake until crisp at 400 degrees. Let cool and serve with salad inside. A friend made this recently, and I was a huge fan. Boom, bacon salad.

Bacon Carbonara

Start out by baking up about half a pound of bacon. Strain the bacon and and cut it into small pieces. When this is ready, boil some pasta and sauté some onions and garlic in butter. when everything is cooked combine inside pasta and stir in a raw egg (the hot pasta will cook the egg). Serve with some french bread. Boom, Bacon Italian delight.

The possibilities are endless, and there's nothing to lose but your appetite in exploring new methods of twisting around this tasty delight.
