Mood classes introduced at DSC
Some days students feel angry, depressed or anxious, but they might not know the best ways to deal with all of these emotions.
Now there is a solution to whatever mood crisis you are facing. The Dixie State College Health and Wellness Center will be hosting a series of classes about how to manage your mood.
This month's course will be taught by Eva Beatty, DSC's own licensed health therapist. Each week a different mood will be taught, and also techniques on how to work through it.
Brittany Largent-Moyes, a sophomore business major from Draper, said she knows some people in her life who could use classes like these. In fact, one class she thinks anyone could use would be about stress. Largent-Moyes also said sometimes people get too worked up over the little things in life, and it can really affect their moods.
"I think that people worry when it's not even that big of a deal," Largent-
Moyes said. "When this happens, I take a step back, look at the situation, and try to decide if it's worth it or not."
Sydnee Gunter, a sophomore visual technology major from Highland, said she thinks these mood classes are ones that actually could pertain to students' real lives.
"This is something people can use outside of class versus something like math," Gunter said. "There are some subjects which you might not use every day or at all after school."
Gunter said she thinks the class could be helpful since it could teach her to learn tips and tricks on how to deal with certain emotions.
"I think anger would be good to cover," Gunter said. "It's important not to blow up at others. When I get angry, I try to take time for myself to cool off before talking to someone. I also like to go running to take the edge off."
If you have ever felt unhappy, have trouble sleeping (or sleep too much), can't concentrate during tests, or feel anxiety when in a social situation, these 60-minute classes might be something you want to check out.
Classes will be held on Tuesdays at 3 p.m., at the DSC Wellness Center. There is no charge for this class, but space is limited. Please RSVP by calling 652-7756.There is just one class left for spring semester on April 23, but the classes are planning on being taught again in the fall.
