Letter from the editor: Goodbye

My last three years on the Dixie Sun have been a rollercoaster ride, and now I depart and pass the editor-in-chief torch to Matty Jacobson.

My goal as editor-in-chief, and hopefully the goal of other student leaders, is to leave things better than when I inherited it. There were a lot of things that needed to happen on the Dixie Sun this year in order for Matty and future student editors to take things to the next level. I feel like we accomplished those things this year.

I’m so grateful that Dixie State College provides a program that allows me to follow my dreams. Writing is my passion, and to all of you who also love to write, I admonish you to also join the Dixie Sun.

It takes a person who is willing to ask uncomfortable questions. It takes a person who has think skin (something I struggled with during my time on the Dixie Sun). Most importantly, it takes someone who believes that history shall always be recorded.

We’re the watchdogs of DSC, but we’re also the history scribes. I had the privilege of covering the Centennial, once-in-a-lifetime athletes like Johnna Brown, Jeremiah Barnes and Jordan Roylance, and the beginning of DSC’s transition into university status.

I was accepted into the University of Utah two years ago, and every day I’m so glad I chose to stay here. DSC and the Dixie Sun have been the best years of my life.
